Last-Minute King Cake

Using store-bought cinnamon rolls, Maria Provenzano's last-minute mini King Cakes are perfect for your Fat Tuesday celebration.

Last-Minute King Cake

Ingredients:

Store-bought cinnamon roll dough

1 cup powdered sugar, plus more if needed

1 tablespoon milk, plus more if needed

Purple, yellow, and green sprinkles

1 dried apricot, optional

 

Directions:

1. Roll out one of the cinnamon rolls so that it’s in one long line.

2. Cut or tear it in half.

3. Twist the two pieces together, then use your hands to form them into a circle.

4. Place on a baking sheet.

5. Repeat with the rest of the cinnamon rolls.

6. Baking according to package instructions.

7. Once cooled enough to touch, insert the apricot into the bottom of one of the rolls.

8. In a bowl, whisk the powdered sugar and milk together until smooth. Add more powdered sugar if the icing is too thin or more milk if it’s too thick. Err on the side of thicker for this.

9. Pour the icing over the rolls.

10. Top with sprinkles and serve.
