Homemade Taco Seasoning

Mahaila McKellar

Yield: 3 cups

Ingredients:

1/2 cup Chili Powder

1/4 cup ground dried Cumin

2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons pure Sea Salt

2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons ground Black Pepper

2 tablespoons + 2 teaspoons Coconut Palm Sugar

4 teaspoons Paprika Powder (not smoked)

2 teaspoons Garlic Powder

2 teaspoons Onion Powder

2 teaspoons dried Mexican or Mediterranean Oregano

1/4 teaspoon to 3 teaspoons Dried Crushed Chili Flakes (optional)

1/8 teaspoon to 1 teaspoon ground Cayenne Pepper (optional)

(Note: All ingredients are organic)

Directions:

1.     Combine all ingredients in a bowl or food processor and mix thoroughly.  This seasoning mix can be stored at room temperature.

Notes: 3 Tablespoons of this taco seasoning mixture equals one packet of store-bought taco seasoning. I recommend using 2 to 3 tablespoons of this taco seasoning mix for each pound of ground meat. Note that salt and pepper are already a part of this mix.

Additional directions to make taco meat with the seasoning:

1.     Cook the ground meat, drain off fat from the pan, then for every pound of meat add 2 to 3 tablespoons seasoning mix and 3 tablespoons of water to the pan.

2.     Mix well to distribute the spices throughout the meat.

3.     Cook on low to medium heat, uncovered, stirring from time to time, for an additional 5 - 10 minutes to cook off excess water and to allow the spices to flavor the meat.
